There are some rules that apply to buying anything new. This is particularly the case when it comes to buying something that can be purchased very cheaply. You need to ask yourself whether buying the cheapest item possible is such a good idea at all.
The point to remember here is that cheap usually means the quality will not be as good. And this applies just as much to garden parasols as it does to anything else.
The main thing you will notice when you are shopping for a garden parasol in person is that the thickness of the material used for the parasol can vary. Cheaper versions will typically have thinner material than more expensive ones. As such it is more liable to wear and tear and it won’t last as long either. It may not rip or tear but it will look shabby a lot faster. And if you store it away safely during the winter months you may find it wears slightly where you lean it up against a wall in the shed.
The quality of the fabric is what you need to look for when you are buying online. Sometimes you will see the fabric is given a measurement in grams. You need to look for the highest number possible as this will be the best quality of the lot. The thicker the fabric is the better – if the fabric is very thin you will still get some degree of sunlight shining through it.
Spending more on a better quality garden parasol is also good because it means you will get a better quality material in other ways as well. For example it should be treated so that it will never shrink. While we would try to keep the parasol out of the rain there are always occasions when we forget or there will be a quick shower that will catch us out. If this happens you want to know that the cover will not shrink when it dries, or become stained with water in any way. This will ruin a cheap parasol but a more expensive one should be able to shrug it off.
As you can see, a cheap purchase may be tempting but it usually has caveats that you need to be aware of. All in all if you can spend more on a more expensive garden parasol you will be glad you did.
