Is It Too Windy for Garden Parasols?

Friday August 12, 2011

Garden parasols are an essential item to have in any garden. They can afford a good deal of shade when the sun is out, and also make it possible to remain sitting outside in a light shower.

But let’s face it they are not designed to cope with all kinds of weather conditions. There have been times in the UK recently when high winds have caused all kinds of problems. If you had a garden parasol out and up during those times, you may well now be shopping around for another one.

This is because while a garden parasol may be able to stand up to a light breeze, it isn’t built to withstand windy conditions. It might be enough to take it down and leave it standing in the hole in your garden table so long as the parasol itself is wrapped up and secured. But it might be better if you can take it out completely and store it in the garden shed while you are waiting for the winds to die down. This is the best course of action very often, because you will be able to make sure you can preserve your garden parasol for use on many other occasions.

It’s worth spending a bit more money on a more stable garden parasol if you are intending to buy a new one though. Instead of looking unstable with the merest breath of wind that happens to pass, it will stand up to much more than its cheaper counterparts. This is good news because you will only have to remove it and put it away when the weather gets really bad.

It’s always worth keeping an eye on your garden parasol at all times because you will be able to notice if it is starting to look a bit fragile. If the weather becomes too much for it, the last thing you want is for it to blow over and knock into a window or something else nearby. Playing it safe and storing it away when necessary is usually the best course of action.
